Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) made a statement on the chase of party’s youth wing activists

The Azerbaijani authorities continue the pressure against the youth wing activist of PFPA. The pressure increased aftermath the successful may protests before the Eurovision.

At the moment, families of activists – Ramin Musayev, Khanim Mustafayev, and Bayim Hasanli, who were the active protesters in May actions are facing pressures. Police visited Khanim Mustafayeva’s house in Gakh district and her father told the police that she was in capital Baku. Police demanded to bring her to Gakh and stated to her father that her daughter was on a wrong path and had joined the radical forces. Her father is believed her daughter to have been on right path. He’s been forced to provide her daughter’s Baku address.

Ramin Musayev’s parents, who live in Oguz district were summoned to police twice and told that their son had joined radical religious forces and also disturbed the public order. His parents were threatened and being pursued. Several days later Ramin Musayev was summoned to police and interrogated on his participation on “Peoples’ Promenade – Protest Walking Action” in May in National park, which was organized by the oppositional Public Chamber. He was kept in police station for two hours and warned to send the inquiry to his school so the management to take measure against him.

Precinct police interrogated Youth Wing coordinator Bayim Hasanli’s father on his daughter’s participation in protest actions. This was not the only case, when her father was summoned to police.
The same happened to other activist Vasif Alishli’s parents, who live in Sabirabad region.

Other pressure methods were also employed. Several activists were forced to give testimony against Ali Karimli, chairman of party. Several offered to cooperate with the police.

PFPA considers the pressures a gross breach of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and international conventions, where it is a signatory as well as its commitments before the international organizations.

PFPA resolutely condemns the pressures against the party’s youth wing activists and states that the pressures are directed at their principal and continuous position on democracy and pursues the policy of silencing them.

PFPA states that the authorities’ repression acts against the peaceful protesters are illegal and irrational and it won’t even a bit break their political will of fighting for democracy.

Sincerely,

Razi Nurullayev,
Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan deputy-chairperson on Foreign Affairs
